Contractors will soon be able to order Volvo’s EC18 Electric mini excavator with a straight boom for higher reach on indoor demolition projects. The new factory-fitted, straight-boom configuration for the 1.8-metric-ton battery-powered compact excavator will add 10% more pin height over the standard boom, the company says. Volvo will begin taking orders in mid-2025.

Volvo has added five new hybrid models to its next-generation excavator lineup, continuing the rollout of the biggest redesign of its excavators in 20 years. The new models include the company’s largest-ever hybrids: the 40-metric-ton EC400 Hybrid and 50-metric-ton EC500 Hybrid. The other models to get Volvo’s “hydraulic hybrid” technology are the EC260 Hybrid, EC300 Hybrid and EC370 Hybrid.

Improvements continue for compact excavators, with new models arriving as well as technological and comfort upgrades to existing lineups. The versatile toolcarriers are the second highest sales volume product, behind compact track loaders, with more than 34,500 new financed units sold in 2024, a 4.5% increase over 2023, according to Fusable’s EDA equipment finance data.

Six months after unleashing its biggest excavator redesign in 20 years, Volvo is back at it – this time unveiling a complete overhaul of its articulated dump trucks, including a brand-new size for the company. The seven models of the company’s next-generation ADTs range in payload from 28 to 61 U.S. tons and will replace the current lineup. The unveiling January 28 also revealed a new size for Volvo with the 50-ton A50, a 5-ton boost in payload over the 45-ton A45G FS.
