Cyclists riding from Baltimore to San Francisco make a stop in Princeton

11 Young cyclists who are riding from Baltimore to San Francisco raising funds for the Ulman Cancer Foundation, made a stop in Princeton on Saturday, June 24. The Ulman Cancer Foundation provides resources and support to young adults with cancer. Each cyclist was required to raise at least $5,000 in order to participate in the ride. The group enjoyed showers and a swim in the pool at the Bureau County Metro Center and was also given a dinner at the Open Prairie United Church of Christ.

DeKalb library story time sessions begin July 6

DeKALB – The DeKalb Public Library will partner with Basic DeKalb County to host outdoor story time sessions at Welsh Park. The park, 651 Russell Road, DeKalb, will hold the sessions at 10 a.m. July 6 and July 13 in the Toddler Garden, according to a news release. The sessions are being led by librarians John and Laura. If the weather is inclement, the sessions will be canceled. The cancellations are available on the library’s Facebook page. No registration is required to attend.

McHenry native Robert Tonyan went to his first Bears game when he was 4 or 5 years old. They played the Lions at Soldier Field. Over the years, his parents took him to games at Soldier Field and even to see the Bears face the Packers in Green Bay. The first time he returned to Soldier Field as a player, as a member of the Packers in 2018, he heard his name over the loudspeaker and he knew he had made it. “I always wanted to be out here,” Tonyan told Shaw Local after that game in December 2018.

To the Editor:At coffee on a recent morning we reached back in our memories to the time before TV. That was a time when we were apt to sit and watch the radio. Do you remember any of those programs? We all laughed as we remembered Henry Aldrich. We remembered the mother calling out for her son, in a commanding voice, “Henry, Henry Aldrich.” It was a nuisance to grown-ups and we had to turn off the radio before Dad arrived.
