SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Marie Widman Memorial Park, located in the heart of Encanto's Black Arts and Culture District, is traditionally a place for community gatherings and celebrations. However, on an ordinary day, there are often no families or children playing in the park, and many in the community feel it has been neglected. Furthermore, the memory of Marie Widman, the park's namesake, seems to have faded over time, according to Encanto residents ABC 10News spoke to.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego History Center has launched a community effort to collect pictures, documents and items that narrate the stories of influential figures in the city's Black community. The aim of the "Missing Pieces" Project is to ensure that the legacies of Black San Diegans are preserved and not forgotten. This collection includes notable individuals, like Howard "Skippy" Smith, who founded the first parachute company in San Diego.
