Fans of the Carolina Panthers are showing remarkable restraint and understanding in predicting their favorite team's successes in the 2025 season. A widely lauded draft and a popular head coach would have some fans foaming at the mouth while forecasting an undefeated season and multiple Super Bowl titles. Setting aside the logistical difficulties of playing more than one Super Bowl in a calendar year is the level of reasoning you would normally expect to find at this point in the off season.

Bryce Young had an unusual sophomore season as a pro. The 2023 first overall pick was benched after two straight terrible games against the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers. New Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales switched to Andy Dalton and most of us thought that was it for Young's career as a Panther. Instead, Young returned to the starting line-up in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos and slowly built a body of work that fans could believe in. What happened in 2024?

The Panthers should effectively be seeing six new starters on defense between Patrick Jones II, Tershawn Wharton, Bobby Brown III, Derrick Brown, Christian Rozeboom, and Tre'von Moehrig. There is room for that number to grow depending on the what Dan Morgan's plan is for nickle corner and the other safety spot. New faces on offense should also have an immediate impact. Namely Tetairoa McMillan and Rico Dowdle should help take pressure off an already talented collection of skill position players.

Dan Morgan says they're picking up Ikem Ekwonu's fifth-year option. - Darin Gantt (@daringantt) April 26, 2025This option fully guarantees Ickey's 2024 and 2025 base salaries. Due to his extended playing time, but lack of Pro Bowl selections, his 2025 salary will be the average of the third to 20th highest salaries of all offensive linemen. That means Ickey will make $16.04M in 2026.
