This means, on the one hand, the country's education policy discourse privileges English as a language of instruction in classrooms as compared to local languages; and on the other hand, it mystifies certain ideologies reproduced and legitimised through academic knowledge.

    Whilst taxpayers have the fundamental right to deduct input tax, HMRC can, in particular circumstances, refuse the taxpayer this right if it can prove that the taxpayer knew or should have known that their transactions were connected to fraud. In the Budget, the Chancellor announced the government’s latest step towards what it calls its intention to raise ‘standards in the tax advice market’. The consultation which is currently open considers a number of possibilities, one of which is regulation by a separate statutory government body.
