That’s why I strongly oppose the proposed redesignation of a portion of a heavily polluted portion of our county back to “attainment” (a technical term for “within normal limits”) for sulfur dioxide (SO₂) emissions. This premature move jeopardizes the health and well-being of our community and ignores the lived experiences of those suffering from decades of industrial pollution.

Tearing down that thoroughfare is part of a major project to re-design and rebuild that traffic corridor as (supposedly) a more pedestrian-friendly development that would also miraculously help to erase the sin of its origins: responsibility for the displacement of hundreds of Black families and the destruction of an entire community.
