So, crunch time in the football season - there's nothing like it in sport, with a number of prizes at stake and potholes to avoid, whether it's titles, play-off places or surviving a relegation scrap. It's also a time when sports commentators can find their voices attached to viral moments, hoping they'll be the soundtrack to a moment in history.

So, a bit later than usual with this one but it will be worth the wait!March was yet another busy month for me at BBC Essex Sport, with six games to commentate. The main difference to February, though, was the fact that only one of these games was at Roots Hall. I've just done the maths and I clocked up nearly 1,400 miles travelling around the country to Yeovil Town, Forest Green Rovers, Eastleigh and Boston United.

So, the headline says it all this month!After a week off at the end of January, it was straight back into the mix with five Southend United games to cover for BBC Essex Sport across 15 days. Before this, though, I had some brilliant commentary training with Rob Nothman. Funnily enough, I have had feedback from Rob before when I started pursuing commentary around my full-time job in 2019.

Southend schoolboys swim English Channel distance for charity

Four teenagers swam the distance of the English Channel for charity. George Nagle, 17, George Coverly, 17, Jack Minney, 17 and Henry Dean, 18, set themselves the challenge as part of a project in their business class at The FitzWimarc School in Rayleigh, Essex. They completed 1,352 lengths of the swimming pool at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre on Thursday, in just over seven hours. The group have raised nearly £2,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

Guernsey runner James Le Gallez takes on 157 mile desert race

Guernsey man James Le Gallez, 35, is facing the gruelling challenge of a seven day, 157 mile (253km) marathon across south-east Morocco. He will also be carrying a 26lb (12kg) pack on his first Marathon Des Sables which starts on Sunday. He aims to raise £10,000 for Autism Guernsey, Jersey Hospice Care, and The Guernsey Society for Cancer Relief. "Looking at the forecasts for the race, it's looking like 35C in the day, so it's going to be pretty hot," he said.
