The Prime Minister wants the controversial Nature Positive legislation to be good for the environment and good for business. To show that he stands for business, jobs and strengthening the economy. It’s time he stops talking about it and actually does it. The problem is that there is nothing in this legislation that is good for business.

AbstractIn early 2021, the United Kingdom (UK) had the highest per capita death rate from Covid-19 of any large country. Yet it had previously been ranked as one of the best prepared countries for a future pandemic. This gap between preparedness and performance has been the subject of intense debate, including as part of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry. In this paper, we contribute to this ongoing process of reflection by identifying the imagined public(s) within the UK’s scientific advice system.

In Tuesday’s budget, Treasurer Jim Chalmers announced a Critical Minerals Production Tax Incentive worth $7 billion over 10 years, aimed squarely at turning on a new value-adding industry for critical minerals. “If we hang back, the chance for a new generation of jobs and prosperity will pass us by – and we’ll be poorer and more vulnerable as a consequence,” Dr Chalmers said.

The legislation WA had in place to protect cultural heritage simply wasn’t good enough. If it had been, it wouldn’t have allowed for the lawful destruction of Juukan Gorge. And that’s pretty much the beginning and end of any intelligent conversation around this issue. The legislation would and had to change.

Dear EditorSander van der Linden’s (SvdL) recent Opinion piece on misinformation argues that more ‘gold standard’ RCTs are required on or about social media in order to "promot[e] vaccine acceptance". Unfortunately, the piece contains three basic misconceptions. First, SvdL argues that improving RCTs would provide “a gold standard for how to conduct research to counter misinformation and vaccine hesitancy on social media”.
