Seventy-six years of European peace followed, an arch of peace held together by its keystone, the United States (NATO and Russia jointly intervened to stop the fighting in Yugoslavia as it broke up).

WASHINGTON – The U.S. is massing naval and air forces as well as boots-on-the-ground air-defense forces to deter Iranian and Iranian-backed Hezbollah (from Lebanon) and Houthi (from Yemen) terrorist attacks against Israel – Iran’s Hamas surrogates in Gaza having already been neutralized. Iran’s stated objective is to destroy Israel, which is as irrational as it is impossible. Israel’s objective is survival, an obviously rational position.

WASHINGTON — Whitmer/Beshears or Beshear/Whitmer may well emerge as the Democratic dream ticket. Gretchen Whitmer is the popular twice-elected governor of critical Midwest swing state Michigan, and Andy Beshear is the dark horse candidate, the unlikely twice-elected governor of deep-red Kentucky. She is 52; he is 46 – marked contrasts to the elderly Donald Trump and Joe Biden. But how could this come to pass? President Joe Biden has served well, and it clearly is time for him to pass the torch.

WASHINGTON — The sad reality revealed in the first presidential debate of 2024 to stunned viewers, foreign and domestic, is that President Joseph R. Biden Jr. has been overtaken by the unforgiving vicissitudes of age. Neither his accomplishments nor his admirers can now save his reelection campaign, and as a man who is primarily a patriot, he must accede to a reality and duty to place country over ambition and graciously step aside and let the upcoming Democratic Convention select another nominee.
