AbstractTransposable elements (TEs) are frequently co-opted as cis-regulatory sequences that govern multiple aspects of host biology. The regulatory activity of these domesticated sequences are controlled by host factors, notably KRAB domain-containing zinc-finger proteins (KZFPs) in tetrapods.
