1 INTRODUCTION Lung cancer is a major public health concern and the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, responsible for approximately 1.8 million deaths annually.1, 2 Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) represent the predominant subtypes of lung cancer, constituting 15% and 85% of all cases, respectively. NSCLC is comprised of three primary histological subcategories: squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), adenocarcinoma (AD) and large cell carcinoma (LCC).
