Med J Aust || doi: 10.5694/mja2.52637 Published online: 28 April 2025 Osteoporosis is characterised by low bone mineral density (BMD) and micro‐architectural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to decreased bone strength and increased fragility and fracture risk. Osteoporotic (fragility) fractures usually follow falls from a standing height, or less, in individuals with decreased bone strength, and involve low or minimal trauma.
