    Significant demolition work is set to begin at Memphis International Airport as part of a $700 million modernization project. A building permit was filed for a part of the next major modernization project underway at Memphis International Airport (MEM). The permit, valued at $7.7 million, covers the first part of the demolition of Concourse A. Tim McCullough of UrbanArch Associates, the project's designers, filed the permit on March 24.

    Currently, only Delta Airlines offers a nonstop route to to the major metro from Memphis. Spirit Airlines has announced a new nonstop route out of Memphis International Airport (MEM). Beginning May 8, Spirit is scheduled to service a route to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) from MEM four times a week. The route will operate a 182-seat Airbus 321.

    Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air is suspending a nonstop flight out of Memphis International Airport (MEM). Allegiant's route to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) from MEM will be going on hiatus after May 12. When asked about resuming the flight, Allegiant told MBJ that it is unable to share plans for future routes at this time.

The nonstop route to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) launched on March 5 and is set to operate four times a week.

  • Crosstown Concourse's Satellite Music Hall breaks ground

    The planned concert venue at Crosstown Concourse broke ground on Feb. 25 with an announcement of its name. The 35,000-square-foot facility — named Satellite Music Hall in recognition of the original name of Stax Records — is located at Autumn Avenue and Claybrook Street in the Crosstown neighborhood. The ceremony announced the name of the upcoming Live Nation venue and a collaboration with Stax Music Academy. Stax Music Academy performed in Crosstown Concourse's central atrium prior to the ceremony.
