    Caribou firefighters battled an early morning house fire Saturday. The fire at 50 Baird Road was reported shortly after midnight, after smoke detectors alerted residents to the blaze. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the eves of the house and the attached garage, with heavy smoke inside the home and flames in the attic and a hallway. Everyone was reported out of the house.

    A single-vehicle accident in Dover-Foxcroft claimed the life of a passenger and left the driver seriously injured early Sunday morning. Jersie Worley-Stewart, 22, of St. Albans, was killed in the crash, which occurred near 1408 Dexter Road, according to Dover-Foxcroft police. The vehicle’s driver, Isaac Weymouth, 23, was flown to Northern Light hospital in Bangor with serious injuries.

    ELLSWORTH, Maine (BDN) -- A man from Ellsworth is dead after he was hit by a car Friday night. Ellsworth Police say the crash happened at the intersection of Shore Road and Bangor Road. They believe 74-year-old James Card went into the road to pick up tools that fell out of his vehicle. That's when a 65-year-old man hit Card with his car.     Three teenage boys who rescued a couple from a fire in Atkinson were honored on Friday. Colby Simmons, 16, of Dover-Foxcroft, Kaleb Weymouth, 15, of Charleston, and Robert Weymonth, 17, of Charleston were presented with a community heroism award and a commendation letter from the Maine legislature. In the early morning of Jan. 1, the three boys spotted the fire in the barn and house at 110 North Stagecoach Road and sprang into action, according to the Maine fire marshal’s office.

    A 74-year-old Ellsworth man was hit by a car and killed on Bangor Road in Ellsworth Friday night. According to the Ellsworth police department, the accident happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday. Police said James Card was in the road’s southbound lane, apparently picking up tools that had fallen from his vehicle, which was parked at the corner of Bangor and Shore roads.
