1 INTRODUCTION Acute myocardial infarction is a severe myocardial injury affecting over 7 million people worldwide each year.1 The most effective clinical practice for myocardial recovery is timely reperfusion. However, reperfusion also causes a series of pathophysiological responses known as ‘ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury’,2 which accounts for nearly 50% of the final infarct size.3 Currently, available drugs targeting at the myocardial I/R injury are limited.
