Fourteen accused persons alleged to have been involved in an international online investment scam that was run from Namibia have denied guilt on 222 charges during their latest court appearance. The 14 accused pleaded not guilty on all of the charges they are facing during an appearance before magistrate Monica Andjaba in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. None of the accused gave a plea explanation to the court or made any admissions on the charges.

A Windhoek High Court judge has ordered social activist Michael Amushelelo to remove comments about Namibian Police inspector general Joseph Shikongo that he made on social media since the start of last week. In terms of an interim interdict issued by judge Boas Usiku yesterday, Amushelelo has to remove comments that he made on Facebook on 31 March about a fatal car collision in which Shikongo was involved in December 2022.

Social activist Michael Amushelelo will be sentenced for contempt of court in the Windhoek High Court on Wednesday. Acting judge Doris Hans-Kaumbi postponed Amushelelo’s sentencing to 12h30 on Wednesday after Amushelelo and lawyer Nambili Mhata addressed her in the morning. Amushelelo suggested that the court should not sentence him to imprisonment and should instead impose a fine of N$300.

Social activist Michael Amushelelo has been held in contempt of court and arrested after referring to judges as “puppets” and “little gods” in the Windhoek High Court on Monday. Acting judge Doris Hans-Kaumbi held Amushelelo in contempt of court in a ruling delivered in the High Court on Monday evening. Hans-Kaumbi said statements made by Amushelelo were a clear attack on the independence of the judiciary.
