Friday’s weather system from Hurricane Helene brought damaging winds, the National Weather Service recording a 68-mph gust at the Indianapolis International Airport. Those winds causing significant damage across AES Indiana and Duke Energy’s service areas, over 97 thousand AES Indiana customers lost power. AES Indiana reporting 2,000 separate incidents – meaning 2,000 separate jobs – that their crews are responding to across their service territory. Over half of those subscribers are back on.

Students can apply for free to more than 30 different Indiana colleges and universities this week. Some schools waived their application fees as part of National College Application Week. Some of those colleges and universities include University of Southern Indiana, Purdue University Fort Wayne and various Indiana University campuses across the state. Students can enter codes to waive the fees, which usually cost between $30 and $65.

At the very top, Gov. Eric Holcomb’s successor will become one of the highest paid governors in the nation while other offices will see raises between 44% and 66%. One other office getting a pay raise will be on the November ballot: the race for attorney general.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A federal grand jury in Indianapolis has indicted an Illinois man in a scam involving primarily elderly people, telling them to convert their savings and retirement accounts to cash or gold bars, and to provide those funds to law enforcement for “protection.” The FBI is seeking help to find the fugitive from Illinois.

INDIANAPOLIS — A Bloomington woman charged with a federal hate crime for allegedly stabbing a Chinese American IU student has pleaded guilty. That attack happened on a city bus in January 2023, Billie Davis agreed to plead guilty to a charge of committing a hate crime, she will be sentenced December 3 and faces a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison, and three years of supervised release.
