Scattered showers & t-storms might possibly help to provide some temporary relief from this summer sizzle pattern we find ourselves in. Plan on high temps in the low to mid 90s and a heat index of about 100 to 107. A strong high pressure system sitting across much of the eastern US, centered just to our northeast, is responsible for this pattern. And our heat might crank to a peak around midweek with some inland areas of South MS hitting the upper 90s.

More of the same today... our reliable pattern of June heat and daily thunderstorm chances will continue for now. Gradually, high pressure is expected to become stronger across our region by the weekend. That could finally help to reduce our rain potential.

Other than a few isolated t-storms n a few spots, many of us have seen a nice and mostly calm start to the day. Make plans to take advantage of the first part of the day’s relatively lower rain chances and get errands and yard work done or perhaps enjoy a nice beach walk or boat ride. The month of June kicks off our “wet season” here in Coastal Mississippi. A big part of our wet season’s rain is typically due to tropical systems. However, the daily summerlike pop-up t-storms also contribute their fair share too. So, don’t be surprised to see another round of those popping up in parts of our area at some point today. Flooding from some isolated heavy downpours can’t be completely ruled out.

We’re waking up to some rain showers already developing across parts of South Mississippi. The little bubble of high pressure that helped to reduce rain coverage for the last few days appears to be completely gone now. That means that we should expect the rain coverage to increase over the next 12-18 hours across our local area. So, you should plan on wet weather at times today and/or tonight.
