He allowed 4 runs (2 earned) in 4.1 IP, to date his shortest outing since being acquired by the Cincinnati Reds from the Kansas City Royals over the winter in the deal that sent Jonathan India the other way.

Things went sideways from there, as the Reds saw their rally come up just short in a 5-3 loss in the second game of the Seattle series only for the series finale to be a blown roller coaster on the back of poor defense and costly errors.

It marked his first double of the entire month of April and only his second extra-base hit of the month, precisely the opposite of the kind of power that’s been expected of him since he broke out with authority during the 2023 season. Perhaps there’s a concrete reason behind that power outage.

In that time, he’s compiled 75 saves - good for the 6th most by any reliever in the game - though it hasn’t exactly been all smooth sailing along the way. Díaz had a fastball that averaged 95.8 mph during the 2022 season, but that’s declined each year since, with the heater sitting at just 94.1 mph last year.
