GREAT BEND, Kan. (KSNW) — Two dogs in Great Bend have attacked a mail carrier. The Great Bend Police Department says officers, assisted by Great Bend EMS and the Golden Belt Humane Society, responded to the 1400 block of Larkin Ave. shortly after 11 a.m. Friday. Someone called 911 to report that two dogs were attacking a mail carrier. EMS took the postal worker to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. Police and humane society employees could not locate the two dogs in the area.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Tallgrass Film Association, the organization that hosts the annual Tallgrass Film Festival, has lost its federal grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The association was awarded the grant in November through the NEA’s Grants for Arts Projects program. However, the Trump administration has revoked it. The organization had earmarked the funds to support festival operations, staffing, venue costs, and core programs.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A man has been sentenced to prison in connection with a 2024 fatal shooting south of downtown Wichita. In March, Yancy Hermosillo pleaded no contest to a charge of aggravated battery in the death of 35-year-old Ladonte Ostrander. Ostrander was found sometime around 5:10 a.m. in the 1000 block of S. Market. Ostrander died at the hospital. Hermosillo was initially charged with second-degree murder. However, he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A magistrate judge has been appointed to fill an open district court judge seat for the 18th Judicial District in Sedgwick County. Governor Laura Kelly announced Friday that she has appointed Kathleen Watson of Wichita to the bench. Watson serves as a magistrate judge, overseeing evictions, collections, and small claims cases in Sedgwick County.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The man sought by Wichita police in connection with a Feb. 11 homicide in southeast Wichita has made his first appearance in court. Jerry Johnson, III was captured Monday in Fort Worth, Texas. He was sought in the shooting death of Manuel Roach, 23, at a home in the 1200 block of South Bleckley. A week after the shooting, two other men, Sergio Clement, Jr., 18, and Allen J. Griffin, 22, were charged with first-degree murder in the case.
