Admittedly, after watching The Rehearsal Season 2 Episode 3, titled “Pilot’s Code,” there’s only one person’s reaction you want to read. And I know it’s not mine. But thank you, nevertheless, for opting to read my thoughts anyway. It means a lot, dear reader. I hope I don’t let you down. One of the purest joys in watching a Nathan Fielder series is knowing, especially now, that you don’t know where it will go. You just strap yourself in and enjoy the ride.

The Surfer, the newest psychological thriller starring Nicolas Cage, is sun-drenched, disorientating, propulsive, and intriguingly bizarre. For every Nicolas Cage devotee, you must keep your expectations squarely in check. While the Oscar winner is among our greatest working actors, as well as our most prolific and quotable, Cage is also famous for making a lot of subpar movies. Many of which don’t even grace the silver screen. Instead, they linger in the sorry lands of VOD hell.

The Prime Video sequel Another Simple Favor, with Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick returning, proves that more can often be less. Falling somewhere between Gone Girl and Where’d You Go, Bernadette in the “mom airport lit” adaptation lineage of the 2010s, 2018’s satirically splashy A Simple Favor was an appealing and occasionally stylish effort from Paul Feig, a director not well-known for his cinematic flavor.

Whether consciously or not, HBO’s The Rehearsal constantly lives in the shadow of Nathan Fielder’s previous series, Nathan for You. Is it a coincidence or simply fate that the second season of Nathan Fielder’s deliriously pensive HBO docu-dramedy (?) series, The Rehearsal, centers around aviation control when airplane safety seems at an all-time low? That’s not for me to speculate, especially when discussing the season premiere. What I can say, though, is that based on this first episode, we’re in for yet another hilariously absurd, emotionally challenging, intellectually probing block of television.

Over at @InBetweenDrafts, I wrote about the third episode of THE REHEARSAL, which is honestly one of the best things that Nathan Fielder has done yet. It's also a better [redacted] biopic than the one [redacted] made. Check it out below! https://t.co/HtR3CUjRMK
