What’s the point of a remaster? What should it be? What purpose should it serve? What can a developer accomplish by going back to an old game besides slapping some new paint on it? Why do it? The Talos Principle has always grappled with big questions: What do we owe each other? How should we live? What does it mean to be human? The Talos Principle has always been interested in human existence; it makes sense that Croteam, when deciding to remaster it, would be interested in what this remaster should be.

Few sports are more primed for the whole “being a video game” thing than professional wrestling, but it’s kinda weird when you think about it: the WWE itself is more akin to an elaborately choreographed fight or dance sequence in a movie than it is an actual competition, whereas the goal of the games based on it is to fight to win.

Answer the phone. It starts with the telephone booths, really. Not chronologically, mind you. That starts when I wake up in a tunnel. The questions. Why are these telephone booths everywhere in Atomfall, from the middle of nowhere to the formerly-idyllic-now-occupied-by-a-military group-village. They ring when I get close to them, and the voice on the other end whispers to me and tells me things. Who to trust. What to watch for. That the woods are dangerous. That I shouldn’t trust Mother Jago.
