A man with too-white skin and too much neck asks the questions. “How did you get into Hadea?” A man named Rémi, doped on a truth serum and attached to a polygraph machine, answers them, offering a frame for the story I’m about to play. Hadea is a hermit state (think North Korea; it has cut itself off from the rest of the world) engulfed in civil war.

Have you ever worked with someone and wondered how they got their jobs? Like, someone so dumb they couldn’t spell cat if you spotted them the “c” and the “t?” And you sit there, watching these people making the worst possible decision at every moment, and you wonder, sometimes aloud, “how do you still have a job?” That’s how I felt watching The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 7, “Convergence.” Except the question isn’t “how do you still have a job?” it’s “how are all of you so dumb?

You ever wonder who the first person to put peanut butter and chocolate together was? Part of me feels like whoever it was must be loaded; I mean, you’ve combined two already great flavors into something that Reese’s would more or less build a whole brand on. And then part of me thinks it plays out like the hypothetical guy who invented the Chicken McNugget in The Wire. A pat on the back from a big shot, and then it’s back to the basement to figure out a way to make the fries taste better.

The first item I ever picked up in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon that wasn’t clothing or weapons was smut. I know what you’re thinking. “Will, you degenerate, of course it was smut. We know all about you, bro.” Listen. I didn’t know it was smut. But I learned real quick. I found it in what looked like the guard’s break area after I was busted out of my cell. I don’t remember what happened next; there was a drawing of a very pretty woman, and then I read the phrase “love apples” and blacked out.
