Leeds United have finally announced the signing of Jaka Bijol from Udinese on Monday evening, with the defender putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at Elland Road. The 26-year-old becomes Leeds’ second signing of the summer after the club had already agreed a two-year deal to sign Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer from Wolfsburg, which becomes official on July 1. Bijol arrives though, as the club’s first major signing – one that instantly improves Daniel Farke’s starting XI.

There are question marks alongside most of this Leeds United squad and whether they are capable of performing in the Premier League, after The Whites secured promotion. Leeds have three goalkeepers but want a new shot-stopper. Illan Meslier, Karl Darlow and Alex Cairns are not deemed good enough for the Premier League. Jaka Bijol is signing to bolster options at centre-back. Junior Firpo might have been kept, but he is off to Betis because of his previous Premier League form.

Leeds United remain silent on social media and on their website, but the belief is that Jaka Bijol will soon be announced as a new player at Elland Road – the club’s second summer signing. Despite reports that Bijol had passed a medical last week, Leeds are still yet to confirm the signing of the defender. Bijol, 26, has put pen to paper on an £18.75m deal from Udinese to Elland Road this month.

Leeds United’s season might have come to an end at the beginning of May but for a handful of Elland Road stars, the 2024-25 campaign has still not come to an end. Mateo Joseph’s season finally ended on Saturday night, with Joseph’s last involvement being to stop his Spain teammates physically confronting Charlie Cresswell after England won their quarter-final clash.

Mauricio Pochettino watched his United States side make it three wins from three in the early hours of Monday morning – and Leeds United ace Brenden Aaronson was excellent. The US Men’s National Team are expected to fight for The Gold Cup title this summer and have made the perfect start with three wins from three. Ahead of Haiti, USA beat Trinidad & Tobago and Saudi Arabia. Aaronson is no longer a guaranteed starter in Pochettino’s side.
