A Former Bev Smith Kia and Toyota employee was arrested on theft and fraud charges. Kelly Marie McKisset was accused by Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators of mis-using company credit cards for personal purchases. McKisset, of Port St. Lucie, was arrested April 10.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY − A prescribed burn east of U.S. 1 on April 15 likely will emit smoke visible to the public, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection. The burn at Savannas Preserve State Park is planned to start about 10 a.m. and conclude about 3 p.m., said Miranda Cunningham, environmental specialist II with DEP. The burn is expected to cover about 416 acres of pine flatwoods in an area east of Port St. Lucie High School and north of Southeast Walton Road.

LUCIE − A Port St. Lucie police officer was suspended following three incidents in which investigators found she neglected or was inefficient in her duties, according to recently-released records. Officer Kristina Popovich, who began working at the agency in March 2019, received the one-day suspension following the cases, which began in January and March 2024, respectively, according to records and a police spokesperson.

PORT ST. LUCIE − A 56-year-old man was arrested on DUI-related charges after police reported he struck a 14-year-old boy who was crossing a roadway, according to Port St. Lucie Police Friday. The incident happened about 4:50 p.m. Thursday as police went to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at Southwest Savona Boulevard and Southwest Idol Avenue, said Sgt. Dominick Mesiti, police spokesperson.
