URI Students for Palestine organized the protest, standing around poster boards with the names and faces of Palestinians killed in Gaza to spread awareness of the ongoing humanitarian crisis. They further urged the university to divest from companies that support the Israeli Defense Forces.

    The University of Rhode Island’s Rhody Esports Coalition received $10,000 for an electronic sports lab on campus for competitive video games, which will be accessible to all students, staff and faculty. Over the next three years, this funding amount will be allocated annually to the new esports lab, which opened on Oct. 1 in the Memorial Union, according to Esports Club President Nadia Sutyrina. The URI Esports Club is working with the coalition to start this project.

    Tucked away in the University of Rhode Island’s Memorial Union is the gaming club, housing student competitions in console video games, card games and competitive computer games. The club’s first room is adorned with posters and drawings from club members, a wall of board games and a table of gaming laptops. This leads into another small room, which contains various video-game consoles like the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2s and Xbox 360s.

    Indigenous tribe members spoke about increasing awareness for Indigenous people in a panel discussion hosted by the University of Rhode Island’s Multicultural Student Services Center on Nov. 6. The forum included speakers from the Narragansett and Wampanoag tribes, including Bella Noka, member and tribal elder of the Narragansett, and Mack Scott, director of undergraduate studies and the Native American and Indigenous studies initiative at Brown University.

    From Monday until Nov. 8, all University of Rhode Island undergraduate students can vote in the fall student senate elections, which elects candidates for spring 2025. Students running for office must have declared their candidacy by Friday and are allowed to campaign until Sunday.
