    A 28-year-old Hastings resident was sentenced June 16 in Adams County District Court to 720 days in jail for attempted possession of methamphetamine on Nov. 10, 2024, and attempted possession of meth and obstruction of a peace officer on Jan. 7. Juan N. Lopez, whose last known address was 1039 W. H St., pleaded no contest March 20. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors reduced the charge to an attempt and dropped charges of driving under suspension and possessing drug paraphernalia.

John Malcom pleaded no contest Feb. 20. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors reduced the charge to a misdemeanor.

Kyle Siebrass of 1843 Boyce St. pleaded no contest June 16 to intentional child abuse, a Class 3A felony punishable by up to three years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

    Members of the Adams County Board of Commissioners approved a stipend to encourage a lawyer to fill the role of chairperson on the Mental Health Board. Commissioners voted 7-0 to approve the change Tuesday during their regular meeting on the second floor of the Adams County Courthouse. Since the position must be an attorney licensed to practice law in the state of Nebraska and a regular block of time must be blocked out to attend meetings, the county has struggled to fill the position.
