Last week, TWØBAYS Brewing won back-to-back gold medals at the World Beer Cup – a first for an Australian brewery and an achievement that puts them among a small collection of breweries worldwide. It’s a competition that’s often considered one the most prestigious due to the number of entries and the fact only three medals are awarded in each category: gold, silver and bronze.

Australia’s latest hop harvest is fading into the past and the team at HPA has plenty to celebrate. Beyond the chance to catch up on sleep, those hop flowers were the first to make use of the hop grower's brand new processing facility in Victoria’s High Country. It was also quite a bumper crop, given that the total number of hectares they picked from shrank. In total, HPA harvested 1,468 tonnes of hops, which is a 128-tonne increase on last year despite a 104-hectare decrease.

There’s plenty of joy ahead for Bucketty’s as the brewery team open a new Northern Beaches venue today, just weeks after securing approval for a second brewpub in the rural community of Bucketty where they originally hoped to launch their brewery. The first of those is Chalky’s which, as the name alludes, is a pool hall. But it’s much more too, thanks to the substantial watering hole's karaoke rooms, a “super-duper” sports screen, and a classy cocktail bar.

TWØBAYS Brewing have won back-to-back gold medals at the World Beer Cup, with their Pacific Ale securing the top honour 12 months on from Session Ale topping the Gluten-Free category. TWØBAYS founder Richard Jeffares (pictured above with head brewer Kristian Martin), who woke to the news this while working in WA, describes the second win as a huge honour. “We’re very excited,” Richard says. “It shows the guys are brewing the best gluten-free beer in the world.
