In a court order Thursday, U.S. District Judge Lawrence Piersol kept jurisdiction over an action brought by Courthouse News while the South Dakota courts put in place a system that gives public access to new civil complaints — the grist of a trial court’s mill — when they cross into court.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Hurricane Ernesto charged toward Bermuda on Friday as officials in the tiny British territory in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean prepared to open shelters and close government offices. The Category 2 storm was located 215 miles (345 kilometers) south-southwest of Bermuda. It had maximum sustained winds of 100 mph (155 kph) and was moving north-northeast at 14 mph (22 kph).

(CN) — The Department of Justice announced Tuesday it has approved a settlement for 139 separate claims of sexual abuse at the hands of Lawrence Nassar, formerly the team doctor for the U.S. women's national gymnastics team. The settlement will distribute a total of $138.7 million to the 139 claimants, according to the Justice Department.
