Queen Camilla was awarded an honorary doctorate by her sister-in-law, Princess Anne, in a rare joint engagement. The 77-year-old Royal was one of five individuals honoured on the University of London's Foundation Day by the school's Chancellor, Princess Anne. Camilla received an honorary doctorate of literature for her promotion of literacy and literature over the past two decades.

A series of three entrepreneurship classes offered at Washington State University Tri-Cities is pairing students with industry professionals to develop and launch new ventures in clean energy. Paul Carlisle, an adjunct professor with the Carson College of Business who runs the program, said the classes are meant to be taken in succession.

Andra Chastain followed a circuitous path to her study of Latin American history. She took Spanish while growing up in Salem, Oregon and her family hosted exchange students, including one from Chile. After the school year, Chastain traveled to Chile to see her friend. “We visited her family, and that was a pivotal moment,” Chastain said. She was 17, with attitudes typical of American students at the time. A conversation with her friend’s family challenged her thinking.

July 30, 2024 Washington State University has new resources and updated policies as a result of regulatory changes addressing the needs of the community. Compliance and Civil Rights (CCR), the Office of the Provost, Center for Community Standards, and Human Resource Services updated university grievance processes to respond to concerns of sex discrimination and sex-based harassment, as required by Title IX’s implementing regulations.

The Perseid meteor shower is kind of like the cosmos’ version of Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. The predictably spectacular event runs from mid-July to late August every year as the planet goes through the bits of ice and rock left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle, which last passed close to Earth in 1992. “It is a great time of the year for people in the northern hemisphere to lie out in the summertime and watch meteors,” said WSU astronomer Guy Worthey.
