As legend has it, a sword from God given to Roland, an 8th century military leader under Charlemagne, was so powerful that Roland's last mission was to destroy it. When the blade, called Durandal, proved indestructible, Roland threw it as far as he could, and it sailed over 100 miles before slicing through the side of a rock face in the medieval French village of Rocamadour.

Wayne Kramer performed in 2013.Todd Williamson/Invision for CirocWayne Kramer, whose explosive guitar playing with the influential Detroit band the MC5 in the late 1960s and early 1970s helped to set the template for punk rock, died Friday. He was 75. The death was confirmed in a post on his official Instagram account, which said the cause was pancreatic cancer. It did not say where he died. The MC5 (short for Motor City Five) formed in Lincoln Park, Michigan, in 1965.
