ROCKINGHAM — Several drivers participating in the NASCAR organizational test at Rockingham Speedway on Tuesday remarked about the speed of the track. And the numbers back up their sentiments. Twenty-six drivers in the Craftsman Truck Series and three in the Xfinity Series all broke 160 mph, according to stats from motorsports journalist Joseph Srigley. Ty Majeski, with ThorSport Racing, had the fastest lap around the famed 1.017-mile oval at 166.567 mph in 21.983 seconds.
Rockingham Speedway announces N.C. Education Lottery as title sponsor for Xfinity race

ROCKINGHAM — The title sponsor for the upcoming Xfinity Series race will be the same as the last NASCAR event at Rockingham Speedway. The speedway and promoter Track Enterprises announced Monday that the Xfinity race on April 19 will be the N.C. Education Lottery 250. “We’re proud to be part of NASCAR’s return to the Rock in April with our sponsorship of the NCEL 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race,” Mark Michalko, chief executive officer of the N.C. Education Lottery, said in a press release.

ROCKINGHAM — Twenty years ago, Jamie McMurray secured his fourth consecutive Xfinity Series victory at Rockingham Speedway. On Wednesday, McMurray returned to the Rock for the Goodyear tire test — in an ARCA car. McMurray, who is now an analyst for Fox NASCAR, was making laps around the track during a press conference with Xfinity drivers Justin Allgaier, Sheldon Creed and Brandon Jones. Opioid funds approved for treatment program at Richmond County Jail

ROCKINGHAM — Detainees in the Richmond County Jail will soon be able to receive addiction treatment while awaiting trial. The Richmond County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday on April 7 approved a request to use funds from the county’s opioid settlement “to implement an evidence-based addiction treatment program” at the jail. The request, for $41,215.97, was made by Social Services Director Robby Hall, on behalf of Sheriff Mark Gulledge.
