Early Thursday morning, Live Oak pitcher Sawyer Pruitt received a text message from his brother, reminding him that his start later that same evening in a Division I nonselect state semifinal would be his final home appearance. Pruitt, a UL signee, tried to downplay the suggestion, choosing to focus on giving his Eagles a leg up in the best-of-three series against visiting Benton. Pruitt, a 6-foot-6, hard-throwing right-hander, delivered a performance fitting for his dominant senior season.

The top-seeded Eagles collected two runs on one hit through three innings before unleashing a four-run fourth inning on the strength of two keys hits, resulting in a 6-1 victory over No. 16 De La Salle in the first game of a best-of-three Division III select regional series.
