(Maryland’s Catholic bishops have released a joint pastoral letter on artificial intelligence that is tied to Pentecost, which is observed this year on Sunday June 8. The pastoral letter was signed by seven bishops, including Baltimore Archbishop William E. Lori; Washington Cardinal Robert W. McElroy; Wilmington Bishop William E. Koenig; and the state’s four auxiliary bishops.

As a freshman at St. John’s College High School in Washington, Tom Braden began competing in wrestling. “It was transformative for me. I got more athletic and a lot more confident in my ability,” he said. Participating in the sport offered lessons in perseverance and the importance of putting in the effort to succeed, he said. This year, Braden was the varsity wrestling captain at St. John’s, and he won his 150-lb. weight division.

For Angelina and Catalina Truong, students at St. Jude Regional Catholic Schoolin Rockville, a family pilgrimage to Rome during Holy Week became an unforgettable encounter with faith, history and a time they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. “I’ll never forget that I got a blessing from the Holy Father on Easter Sunday,” said Angelina Truong, who is 13 and a seventh grader at St. Jude Regional Catholic School.

After she graduates with honors from St. Vincent Pallotti High School in Laurel, Magdalena “Maggie” Johnson will head off in the fall to McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland where she will study nursing. “I currently plan to get my BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) and become a labor and delivery nurse,” she said, adding that she would eventually like to further her education and become a nurse practitioner.
