INTRODUCTION In flowering plants, immobile sperm cells in mature pollen grains (PGs) are transferred to the female gametophyte by the pollen tube (PT) for double fertilization. Mature pollen is formed through a 12-stage developmental process involving secondary mitosis, ultimately resulting in a tricellular PG consisting of two sperm cells and one vegetative cell (Zhang et al., 2011). During pollination, pollen attached to the stigma undergoes adhesion and hydration.
