BLYTHEWOOD – Fouls on the Westwood boys basketball teamearly in their game against Region 5-5A rival Blythewood came fast and furiousFriday night. The Bengals built a 30-11 lead with 3:07 left in the secondquarter, largely on T.J. Lewis’s 13 foul shots, and 15-of-17 shooting from thefree-throw line by that time. WINNSBORO – The Richard Winn Academy head football coach Paul Brigman knew this year’s team had a lot of promise, but he said the young Eagles have worked hard to make it to the final game. “It has been a special season,” Brigman said. “We had a verysenior-laden team last year, lost eight guys and most of them had played a lot. We had several spots that we were just unsure about.”Replacing those seniors proved to be easier than Brigman andhis coaching staff thought.

BLYTHEWOOD – The Westwood football team’s offense was lacking at key moments in their 5A Division 2 playoff opener Friday night. Luckily for the Redhawks, the defense put in a clutch second-half effort to beat Socastee 34-14 for its first playoff victory since 2019. Westwood (6-5) is in the lower state bracket and travels to Moncks Corner next week to take on Berkeley. The Stags (5-5) received a first-round bye with a second-place finish in Region 7.
