Cuonzo Martin doesn't want to talk about last year too much. Who can blame him? He thought before the season that the Bears would finish in the top half of the Missouri Valley Conference, and instead had one of the worst seasons in the program's history. It didn't take a basketball savant to recognize that the Bears lacked the talent necessary to win at a high level. It's why Martin only brought back three players for the team's first venture into Conference USA.

Missouri State football landed its second St. Louis-area prospect in its 2026 high school class. Jay'Veon Scott, who lists himself as an athlete out of Lift for Life Academy, announced his commitment to the Bears on Wednesday afternoon, June 18. Scott is listed at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. He started his career at Chaminade. During the 2024 season, he was Lift for Life's leading rusher, running the ball 72 times for 367 yards and five touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 45 yards and a score.

Springfield Catholic is hiring former Incarnate Word assistant coach Carlito Labarda as its next boys' basketball coach. Labarda replaces Jay Osborne, who left the Fightin' Irish after three seasons to become the next coach at Greenwood. The school confirmed the hiring on its Facebook page. Labarda's connection to Springfield comes via Missouri State assistant men's basketball coach Dr. Carson Cunningham, with whom he coached under at Incarnate Word.

Missouri State football is less than two-and-a-half months away from running out of the tunnel at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to take on USC during its first season in Conference USA and the FBS level. Outside of the Bears' Sept. 20 game against UT Martin, they will face a new-look schedule as they try to make a good impression on their new league.
