The development of efficient catalytic materials in the energy field could promote the structural transformation from traditional fossil fuels to sustainable energy. In heterogeneous catalytic reactions, ligand modification is an effective way to regulate both electronic and steric structures of catalytic sites, thus paving a prospective avenue to design the interfacial structures of heterogeneous catalysts for energy conversion.

AbstractHydroxylamine is an important nitrogenous feedstock for the chemical industry. Conventional hydroxylamine synthesis methods utilize ammonia as the nitrogen source and require harsh reaction conditions, leading to unfavourable environmental footprint. Here we develop a plasma-electrochemical cascade pathway (PECP) powered by electricity for sustainable hydroxylamine synthesis directly from ambient air and water at mild conditions.
