1 INTRODUCTION Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-associated mortality worldwide, of which nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the two major types, accounting for 85% of lung cancers.1 Accurate lymph node (LN) staging is essential for NSCLC. Patients who have no LN metastasis typically receive local treatments. This often involves resection or, for those with limited cardiopulmonary function, radical radiotherapy.
