AbstractMotivated by the high-performance solid-state lithium batteries enabled by lithium superionic conductors, sodium superionic conductor materials have great potential to empower sodium batteries with high energy, low cost, and sustainability. A critical challenge lies in designing and discovering sodium superionic conductors with high ionic conductivities to enable the development of solid-state sodium batteries.

Despite high energy density (2600 Wh kg-1) and theoretical specific capacity (1675 mAh g-1), Li-S batteries are still far from practical application due to the notorious “shuttle effect”, slow reaction kinetics, and severe lithium dendrite issue [1], [2]. The shuttle effect stems from diffusion of the dissolved polysulfides (LiPSs) across the separator and their side reaction with the anode.
