    New arts project offers a very different kind of virtual experience - bringing people together, rather than apart. Recently I stumbled across Apple’s Vision Pro VR headset. Retailing at around £4,000, this sleek piece of tech promises to transport users into a wraparound world of immersive games and streaming. Promotional videos show models, mostly sat alone in surroundings culled from the IKEA catalogue, plugged into a virtual landscape, presumably more exciting than the real world.

    Rumpelstilskin isn’t in the usual panto repertoire. The story of how a magical dwarf strikes a Faustian pact with a peasant girl in Early Modern Bavaria - spinning straw into gold in exchange for her firstborn child - feels a shade too dark for young audiences, if not teetering on the edge of cancellation. But thanks to a few deft tweaks to the story, this year’s production at Bury’s Met theatre is a refreshingly novel Christmas offering.

The Harry Enfield sketch was a parody of the Madchester scene sweeping the playgrounds of Nineties Britain; an era where kids everywhere outdid themselves to mimic Liam and Noel’s Burnage brogue.
