    Virtuoso Joshua Bell played his 3.5 million dollar Stradivarius in a subway station in Washington D.C. on a cold January morning and over a thousand people walked right by. Gene Weingarten of the Washington Post put him up to it, and Weingarten won a Pulitzer prize for his article. As for Bell, he got a cold bucket of water on his head. Only two kinds of people stopped to listen: Seven adults and every last kid. Except the kids got pulled away by their mothers.

    On the first night of Passover, we are commanded to relate the miracles and wonders that were performed for our forefathers in Egypt, as it is written, "Remember this day, on which you went out of Egypt". What is freedom? When pressed to define this most basic human need and aspiration, we usually find ourselves explaining what freedom is not. Freedom is not slavery, it is not confinement, it is not inhibition. But is that all there is to freedom - the absence of subjugation?

    Who is the chassid? He has fascinated the 20th century Jew and much of the non-Jewish world. He has been exhaustively researched, fictionalized, dramatized, painted and photographed in the attempt to define or capture his fervor and philosophy, his outlook and ethos, the joy and the devotion which characterize his life. But why not ask the chassid himself? He will tell you: the chassid is a Jew. A Jew as defined by Torah.

    Why do we care? If our existence is an accident, why should it make any meaningful difference if we are or are not? What does it mean, and what does it mean to us... Aside from stimulating our minds and inspiring our mystic wonder, what are the practical ramifications of the truth that G‑d is creating the world anew every moment of time? Slumbered time is probably the most wasted human resource. Why did G-d create us in such a way that we spend 25% to 30% of our lives doing nothing?
