Il termine "newsjacking" è stato coniato da David Meerman Scott e si riferisce alla pratica di inserire il proprio brand nei discorsi attuali, sfruttando notizie di tendenza per catturare l'attenzione del pubblico e dei media. In pratica, si tratta di "dirottare" una notizia popolare e usarla a proprio vantaggio per promuovere il proprio brand. Le notizie di attualità hanno già catturato l'interesse del pubblico.
