The US Navy (USN), the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF), the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) the Indian Navy, are currently participating in a naval exercise MALABAR 2023, which officially commenced on August 11, at Sydney Harbour, Australia. The MALABAR series of maritime exercises was first held in 1992 as a bilateral exercise involving the Indian and US fleets. Over the years, the series has expanded in scale to now include the navies of the other two Quad members.
