During and after his Presidential campaigns, US Senator Bernie Sanders voiced criticism regarding Israel's settlement practices and the mistreatment of Palestinians (Beauchamp, 2016; Sanders, 2021). In contrast to criticism of Israel from other actors—foreign governments, international organizations (IOs), or transnational advocacy networks—American and Israeli media emphasized Sanders’ diasporic identity, as a Jewish-American.
