I still remember the look on my face the day I met a friend for lunch and, in the middle of ordering, she pulled out what I first called an “ugly doll”. Honestly, I thought she had brought along something kids would play with – a weird, slightly creepy plushy with a strange face. Last weekend in Oman was a lively mix of tradition, family and adventure, all wrapped up in the celebration of Eid Al Adha. It’s one of the most important religious festivals in the country and Omani families took it as an opportunity to reconnect with their roots and loved ones. Most headed off to their villages, where the entire week was mapped out with prayers, family gatherings and the preparation of shuwa — a slow-cooked, aromatic meat dish that’s a highlight of Eid festivities.

The moment you stepped into the grand hall of the Sheraton Hotel in Muscat on June 4, 2025, there was an immediate sense of vibrancy and warmth that filled the air.
