Spontaneous willow woods and intense biodiversity have flourished in the wake of the Kakhovka Dam breach, caused by an explosion two years ago in Ukraine's Kherson region. Russian sabotage was suspected when the dam, a critical hydroelectric power source, burst on June 6, 2023, causing widespread flooding, deaths, and damage along the Dnieper River. Now the former reservoir may be home to a renewed natural bounty, say ecologists.

Two children were among those injured in a late-night Russian air strike on the eastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhya on May 1-2. Ukraine's Emergency Services reported that three people were dug out from rubble after the attack, which struck homes, school buildings, and other civilian targets.

A family of three was killed in a Russian drone strike on Zaporizhzhya on March 21, while at least 12 others were injured. A daughter and father were killed when buried under rubble but rescuers were able to dig out the mother, who later died at the hospital, according to the regional military administration.
