1 Introduction Silicone-based (─[O─Si(CH3)2]n─) biomaterials are the most commonly employed biomaterials for implantable device applications owing to their bio-inertness, anti-adhesiveness, and low cytotoxicity. This has led to the use of silicone-based devices in long-term (months to years) applications, such as defect fillers in lumpectomy or muscle atrophy conditions for augmentation or restoration of the defects and as tracheobronchial or vascular stents.
