Owing to their high energy density, long life, and stable operating voltage as well as environmental friendliness, (1,2) lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have great potential for portable consumer electronics, electrical vehicles, and energy storage systems. (3) Among various cathode materials, nickel-rich LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 (NCA) is attractive for LIBs due to its excellent specific capacity (278 mAh g–1) and high lithium ion diffusion coefficient (10–10 cm2 s–1).
