Design practitioners are increasingly being asked to develop research questions related to their projects and to state design hypotheses associated with the concepts implemented in their designs. Architects, engineers and design professionals are asked to validate design concepts they propose with some form of evidence. Where can it be found?

Children with disabilities spend considerable time in health care spaces, but there is little research examining their experiences. Three recent articles share different ways researchers collected children’s input and include recommendations for future design. There is a growing global interest in ensuring health care spaces are resilient in terms of flexible design to accommodate pandemic and surge capacity challenges yet also support resilience in health care workers. The Center for Health Design’s Knowledge Repository includes several papers on resilience, three of which are featured here. In a 2022 study on flexible design, van Heel and colleagues explore design considerations used in Dutch health care facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
