    Twelve developments from across Asia have been selected as winners of the 2024 ULI Asia Pacific Awards for Excellence, one of the real estate industry’s most prestigious honors. Announced at the 2024 ULI Asia Pacific Summit held in May in Tokyo, this year’s award winners include projects in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and the Philippines.

    Deep in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, when capital was not flowing quite as freely in the real-estate sector, Brookfield’s Real Estate Group was busy. In fact, Lowell Baron, the Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of the group, said that the second half of 2020, through to the following year, was probably the busiest investment period in the two decades he’s spent at Brookfield. “When capital is plentiful and people are chasing deals, that’s when prices get high,” he said.

As the world’s population continues to grow, there will be a need for increased urbanization to accommodate more people. In the Asia Pacific region, the number of new city dwellers is expected to number 4 billion over the next 50 years. By 2100, there might be 10 billion people living in 10,000 cities across the globe, with 70% of them in Asia-Pac.

    As the world’s population continues to grow, there will be a need for increased urbanization to accommodate more people. The question is how and when should urban planners decide to regenerate, when to expand and when to create new cities, for sustainable growth and development of future cities, since each approach comes with its benefits and its drawbacks.
